Cooperative Banks — A Great Service To India
Today while casually travelling back from Tiruvallikeni to Guindy, the bus was stopping for a while near West Mambalam and near the Madras Central Cooperative (MCC) Bank. It is a really great bank. Just wanted to share that besides the plethora of nationalized banks in India, rural people and even metro/urban should consider using these services and patronize them.
I typically like the following two banks for their very noble mission.
- Madras Central Cooperative Bank
- Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative Bank
MCC Bank pioneered in bringing in the thoughts of Small Savings to kids. They brought in the innovative Kiddy Banking first where a small vessel (locked) was given to the kids opening the account (with the consent of their parents). The kids can save small coins and whenever they wish bring this to the bank submit it and then get their passbook updated. The staff are also very cooperative.
Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative bank is very innovative in its logo. A sparrow feeding another. The bottomline of the logo is that bank saves its account holders in times of need.
You can find a list of cooperative banks from Indian Banks Association website here. Instead of fighting always with stupid private banks, I think we should concenterate on supporting and patronizing these innocent service-oriented banks which serve us for ever.
