Good Hearted Help in Summer by Associations

“நல்லார் ஒருவர் உளரேல் அவர் பொருட்டு எல்லார்க்கும் பெய்யும் மழை” is a very famous saying by Avvaiyar (ஔவையார்). The meaning of this saying is that the rain god and the nature bless us only because of our good deeds and the good deeds actually bless not only us but everyone in the community and our surroundings.

Come Summer and you really can make a good difference between who really helps you and who pulls your legs down. This is the right time to make one understand the essence of the famous English saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed”.

We can see a good number of organizations in Chennai involving in the following services to the public like distributing free water, distributing butter milk etc. A few of them are Ramakrishna Mutt and a group in Velacherry (as I learnt from Velacherry Plus — a neighborhood magazine, which I came across while my visit to Axis Bank branch last week). A number of political parties like AIADMK and DMDK have also put up shaded bunks and installed water pots to serve free water for thirsty passerbys. With all these positive services in one side, it is paining that a few of the unruly ruling party members damaging the pots near the Thiruvedanthai village because of political riots. I think, the cops should wake up from their deep slumber to ensure that the public have good strong peace everywhere.
A Quick Look of Educational Service Providers

A month back, I had a casual meet with Venkat of Sakshi Automation Solutions, which is now put up in Korattur. They actually are running a premiere educational website called Patashala. We had a good discussion for sometime about the various educational programmes that he is currently organizing. Inspired by the discussion, I also just thought, I should compile a list of educational service providers for the benefit of students and parents. This is the time when students are eagerly looking out for guidance in seeking admissions to various colleges and they need our attention and guidance in every step.

A few of the organizations and websites that help towards school/college/higher education is listed below. This list is by no means exhaustive. I would like to request the readers to kindly share as comments any other organization that helps students. We also welcome your views about any of the organizations based on your experience.

  1. India Study Channel [A premiere website by Dotnetspider group to help out students in various college courses]
  2. Patashala
  3. ClassOnTheWeb [I am proud that I was one of its lead developers in its first organization for the first version of this website in 2000]
  4. Kalvimalar [I have seen this advertisement in the newspapers recently]

East or West, Home is Best and now Dinakaran helps you with Home Queries

There is a well known saying in English called ‘East or West Home is Best’ which in Tamil translates as எலி வலையானாலும் தனி வலை வேண்டும். I have been observing some interesting Q&A (Question and Answer) section in Dinakaran newspaper called ‘Namathu Illam’ (நமது இல்லம்). This appears every Sunday in Dinakaran. You can also check out Dinakaran website  ;but I am not sure whether this section appears in the online edition. I am not able to check it out because I am using only Internet Cafe’s like Sify iWay to access Internet where I can not download fonts whereas dinakaran site has a requirement of font downloads.

Well! Coming back to the discussion of the Q&A section, I just saw an offer from Dinakaran that if one has any queries regarding real estate or house property, they can email to Namathuillam@dinakaran.com. I just thought I would share this with other readers too so that people can benefit from the same.

The Chain of Mobile Stores Across the Nation

You might have observed a recent survey that very soon India would world’s number two in the number of people that use mobile phones for communication overtaking United States. You can check out the PCWorld article on this topic over here. At this moment, I just thought I would make a simple post of various famous mobile supermarkets in Chennai for the benefit of the interested readers:

Please note that this post is not affiliated with any of these stores and this is purely compiled for the benefit of readers on my personal effort and energy.

  1. The Mobile Store
  2. Subiksha Mobile
  3. Poorvika
  4. Univercell
  5. Wavetel
Perhaps if you come across any more store like that, share it along with your reviews as comments for this article. There are few tips on using mobile phones effectively too.

Mobile phones should be used to satisfy its basic communication services first and then trying to make the best use of other accessory services. Also, we should see that we do not make a lavish spend on a costly mobile just for showoff.  At this instance, I would like to invite the reader for a few discussions on mobile phones that we had earlier:

  1. Pure Luxury Communications Mobile
  2. Securing your Mobile Phones (in particular reference to Chennai)
  3. Mobile Phones — When and When Not To Use
  4. The importance of ICE numbers in your PhoneBook
The Sale of PCs at Petty Shops in Chennai

I have been thinking to write this for a while but due to time constraints this had been remaining an active item in my Inbox.com Notes (enqueued by my Todolist). I have a definite workflow for any of my activity to streamline the processes and make an efficient use of the available time.

Come Sunday (and for that matter any day) and when you flip through the newspapers you really come across a good number of advertisements for sale of PCs. A number of small shops have also mushroomed in Chennai partnering with PC manufacturing giants and deal in second hand sales too. I would however suggest that you do a first hand ground work or homework regarding the configuration that you need with a helpdesk of your known system person before approaching any of the sellers to avoid being overcharged and under-serviced.

A month back, I observed that a photo studio in Kamarajapuram has a banner called ‘Sale of PCs’. The latest trend that is catching up is also laptop sale starting at 25000 INR. I would recommend the minimum computer purchase guidelines checklist that is published in the University of Florida (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) department webpage over here. I would also suggest checking out in classified websites like Sulekha for a comparitive shopping to get a better offer.

Perhaps other readers can share more thought about this too and reviews about various PC dealers

Mushrooming of Retail Supermarkets in India

A while back we discussed about the intense turmoil that Reliance Fresh has created in the state of Tamil Nadu. A week back, I was thinking that I should try compiling a list of Retail Supermarkets in Chennai as an information lookup for the benefit of readers.  Here is a quick lookup directory on the famous retail supermarkets in India.

In my related post on Reliance, Narayanan has also shared as a comment about an innovative software firm which has setup a website which would bring small traders also to compete against the big giants by joining up in a single website called EGroceryShop.  Here is the list of supermarkets for your reference. The list is not exhaustive. Please feel free to share other supermatkets with details as comments.

  1. Subhiksha
  2. More for You from Aditya Birla Group
  3. Kamadhenu Cooperative Supermarket
  4. Nilgiris Supermarket
  5. FoodWorld
  6. Spencer’s Daily
  7. Jeevan Supermarket (Chennai)
Perhaps you can share about more supermarkets you know and have come across along with reviews on the products and services over there.
The New Age Matrimonial Boom

There is a saying called ‘Marriages are made in Heaven’. There were days when a time comes for marriage, family elders used to search for an appropriate bride/groom and then initiate talks and discussions. Slowly, there were people called Marriage Brokers who came into the foray and ruling the business for some time. This had both pros and cons. The family elders are relieved of the stress but brokers sometimes suppress information and make an incorrect match for commissions.

During these days, when we flip through the newspapers and television channels, we see a lot of matrimonial service organizations. The objective of the post is to provide a simple and quick reference lookup on the various matrimonial services that are available in India. This is not a comprehensive list. I would like to request the readers to share additional service providers that you have come across for the benefit of other readers. I would like to request the readers to share their success stories or negative experiences with any of the service providers so that it would be an eye-opener for the public and as well the service provider since they can use your comments as a valuable tool to improve their service quality to the next higher levels to serve the people and nation still more.
